Nest Insight fair processing notice – Debt and Savings Solutions Project

This fair processing notice (‘notice’) provides you with information about how your personal data will be used if you choose to opt in to qualitative research and/or enter the prize draw linked from the Stream survey.

Please read it carefully with Nest Insight’s Privacy policy, which has more information about how your personal data will be used and your data protection rights. We are required under Data Protection legislation to notify you of the information contained in this notice.

Who is collecting your data

  • Stream hosts the survey and collects responses. Stream will share only anonymous survey data with Nest Insight.
  • Nest Insight will collect your personal data only if you opt in to:
    • Qualitative research interviews or focus groups.
    • Prize draw entry.

We will obtain your consent before you can take part in our research and any activities associated with this. If you do not provide your consent your personal data will not be used.

The personal data we collect will be processed solely for the purpose of conducting our research, to provide you with an incentive payment for taking part in our research, or to administer a prize draw: 1 x £250, 2 x £125, 5 x £50, 10 x £25 (if you choose to enter) we will run. Please note we will also use your e-mail address to administer the prize draw and to issue you with any applicable incentive payment.

The legal basis for processing your personal data will be consent in the following situations:

  • When we conduct research, which include a survey, focus group or an interview.
  • When we administer incentive payments for taking part in our research such as gift vouchers or cash.
  • When we administer and manage prize draws for taking part in our research.

Types of data

We may store, collect and use (process) the following personal data about you for the research and related activities only:

  • First name
  • Surname
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Region
  • Age and other information relating to your age
  • Gender
  • Marital status
  • Employer
  • Information about your knowledge of debt and savings hybrid solutions and other financial products held
  • Information about any loan and savings accounts you may hold and how you manage these accounts
  • Information about short- and longer-term financial shocks currently or previously experienced and how you cope with these shocks
  • Your personal circumstances, including some financial information, as well as your attitudes, experiences, and behaviours around money management
  • Audio and/or video recordings for focus groups only (you will never be recorded without your prior consent)

Special categories of data are more sensitive and are provided with extra protection under Data Protection legislation. This includes data that could reveal your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health data, sex life data or data concerning a person’s sexual orientation.

This will be processed only for research purposes and on the basis that you provide your explicit consent for this data to be used for the purposes of this research. This data will be securely stored and kept only as long as needed to analyse the research data.

Data storage and retention

We will ensure that all data is stored securely using encrypted systems to guarantee confidentiality and protection against unauthorised access. This will not be shared with or sold to any third parties. If it is shared with our research partners, it will be in an anonymized format. The retention period for each type of data will depend on its purpose, but this will never be kept for longer than 10 years, and it will be deleted according to data protection regulations when it is no longer needed.

Your rights

You will be able to access or withdraw your data at any point. All of your subject access rights are contained within Nest Insights Privacy Notice. To do this you will need to email Nest Insight at insight.research@nestcorporation.org.uk and ask them to remove your data. This will not be possible for some media once shared publicly. An acknowledgement of this lower level of protection to your rights is made in the release form should it be applicable.

Third parties

We may use the following third-party processors to support the research:

  • We will use a platform called Ayda to pay applicable remuneration for the focus group participation. You will be asked to sign up to their privacy policy and terms of use.
  • We will use a platform called Love2Shop to distribute the prize draw amounts to the selected winners. You will be asked to sign up to their privacy policy and terms of use.
  • Online survey providers to host the survey. Your use of the survey may be subject to their privacy policy, but they will not have access to your personal data.
  • If you (are eligible and) provide your consent to participate in a focus group or interview, this will be recorded and the audio recording shared with transcribers to provide a transcription. The transcriptions will be pseudonymised where possible.
  • We may use third party researchers to facilitate and support our research and any researchers that are part of their research team. They will only process anonymised/pseudonymised data, which will not be passed on or sold to any other parties.
  • If you agree, the project team will make use of the Microsoft-365 generative AI tool Co-pilot to record and transcribe focus group data you provide, and also to support some of our analysis. None of this data will be made available to those outside of the core research team. Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Focus Group

Yes, you will receive an incentive payment of £50 for taking part in a focus group. An online payment provider Ayda will be used to issue payments. For all payments to be received they will need basic information i.e. name and email address. You can then choose whether to have the compensation received via Bacs, PayPal or in a voucher form. Their privacy policy can be viewed here.

Survey

Yes, there will be a monetary prize draw for completion of the survey. This includes: 10 x £50; 5 x £100; 2 x £250; 1 x £500 Love2Shop vouchers. The online multi-retailer gift voucher provider Love2Shop will be used to issue these prizes. For all prizes to be received we will need basic information i.e. name and email address. You will then be able to activate the voucher and use it at different retail stores. Their privacy policy can be viewed here.

You do not have to take part in the survey, participate in the focus group, or enter the prize draw being offered. You can ask questions about the research before deciding whether or not to participate.

If you do agree to participate, you may withdraw yourself from the research and/or any prize draw offered at any time, without giving a reason, by advising Nest Insight via email.  Note that only full completion of the focus group will be compensated via Ayda.

You can contact us with any queries or to request to withdraw from the research by emailing us at insight.research@nestcorporation.org.uk. At your request, any personal data not already deleted will be removed from our records.

The possible risks of participating in the research or entering the prize draw are minimal. We always protect your personal data and take steps to ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation.

You will receive an incentive payment for your participation if you enter the prize draw and participate in the focus group. Additionally, your participation will support the evaluation of debt and saving solutions by providing valuable insights into how customers manage their finances – particularly through savings, loans, and innovative debt-and-savings hybrid solutions. By sharing your experiences, you contribute to a deeper understanding of what works well and where challenges arise in real-life money management. This information helps to improve the products and services offered by credit unions and informs policymakers, researchers, and the financial services industry about how to better support people’s financial wellbeing.

No – unless consent is expressly given for audio media to be externally published. We will obtain explicit consent (see consent).
