Nest Insight fair processing notice – self-employed online study summer 2024
This fair processing notice (‘notice’) provides you with information about how your personal data will be used in our self-employed research project. Please read it carefully with Nest Insight’s Privacy policy, which has more information about how your personal data will be used and your data protection rights. We are required under Data Protection legislation to notify you of the information contained in this notice.
Your consent
We do not request any personal data from you and we are not purposefully collecting personal data about you during the study.
The link you use to access the study will include a temporary pseudonymised ID number that is study and participant specific. We will use this ID to create a unique URL to redirect you back to Dynata after the study to let them know if you participated or were excluded.
Pseudonymised data is a way of protecting your personal information. This code is used so that we don’t need to collect information that directly identifies you. Only Dynata can identify you and this way, even if someone gets hold of the pseudonymised data, they won’t be able to identify you (without access to the ‘key’ Dynata hold).
This means that while the study is live, and for up to two weeks after, you can remove your data by letting Nest Insight know via email. After this point, we will delete the pseudonymised ID and you will be anonymous in the data unless you chose to include personal data in open-field text boxes.
We will collect your consent before you can take part in our research and any activities associated with this. If you do not provide your consent, your anonymous data (plus any personal data you self-disclose) will not be processed or used in our research.
Types of data
The purpose of this research study is to better understand how self-employed people save. Therefore, within the task and survey there are questions about your business, household and thoughts around different financial topics.
Nest Insight will only ask questions with the aim of collecting anonymised data that you cannot be identified from.
Dynata will have created a pseudonymised ID for you and appended it to the inbound URL that you used to join the study.
We will use this ID to redirect you to Dynata at the end of the study upin completion, or if you are ineligible. Your responses in the study will not be shared with Dynata.
When we download the data from Gorilla, we will not download the ID from your data. The ID will be deleted within 14 days of the study closing.
While we are not seeking to collect personal data (beyond the pseudonymised ID), we will include open-field text boxes. You should not include personal data in these boxes but if you do, we will store and use (process) this data for the research and related activities only, and delete where identified, and will not publish the personal data in any outputs.
Special categories of data are more sensitive and are provided with extra protection under Data Protection legislation. This includes data that could reveal your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, health data, sex life data or data concerning a person’s sexual orientation.
We may process special category data about you.
Your rights
You will be able to withdraw your data for a limited time after you have completed, or partially completed, the study. To do this you will need to email Nest Insight at insightresearch@nestcorporation.org.uk with a valid pseudonymised ID for the study (from Dynata). We will use this to identify your data and remove it.
If you do not have a valid ID, we will not be able to identify your response in the data and therefore it will not be removed.
Within 14 days of the study closing, it will no longer be possible to delete your data. This is because the ID will be deleted and so we will not be able to identify you within the data set.
Third-parties
We may use the following third-party processors to support the research:
- The online research platform is Gorilla who will host the study. Your use of the research platform may be subject to their privacy policy, but they will not have access to your personal information.
- We are working with the research consultancy Expilab for the analysis of data. All data they have access to will be anonymous.
- Dynata is the recruiter for participants in this study. Dynata will append a pseudonymised ID in the study URL which we will use in the URLs to return you to Dynata. This is for the purpose of identifying your participation and eligibility in the study and will allow you to receive compensation from Dynata, as required and as per their policy.
