Sharing our research

We’ve been taking part in a range of events and activities to share our research and learn about what other countries are doing to tackle similar issues to those we’re looking to address here in the UK.

Strengthening Retirement Outcomes: Webinar

Did you know that today over 84% of eligible employees in the UK are saving for their retirement, thanks to auto enrolment? Australia have similarly created a high level of coverage through a
different type of policy intervention that has made workplace pension saving mandatory for employees. Meanwhile, in America over 55 million lack access to a workplace retirement and
public policy discussions have focused on possible measures to get more people saving.

Our Executive Director, Will Sandbrook, recently took part in a webinar with Ida Rademacher from
The Aspen Institute Financial Security Program and Steve Utkus from Vanguard’s Center for Investor Research to explore the parallels and potential lessons to learn from across the United Kingdom, United States and Australian retirement systems.

Georgetown Centre for Retirement Initiatives: Podcast

Will also recently recorded a podcast for the Georgetown Centre for Retirement Initiatives, as part of their State of Retirement series. In the session, Will shares his thoughts on the next generation of challenges for Defined Contribution schemes, exploring the topics of:

  • increasing pension engagement
  • optimising retirement incomes
  • improving the overall financial wellbeing of savers
  • increasing pension saving among self-employed and gig-economy workers.
